I am a good Christian, why do I need to go to church?

For those who would ask that question I believe your Christianity is very self-centered. The most important reason to go to church is to worship and praise God. Going to church is to be God centered, our focus is God because He is worthy of our praise. It is important for the body of Christ together to worship a holy and almighty God. You are disappointed with church because you have been hurt by someone at church, or maybe you thought the sermons were boring, or nobody cares about you. Did you notice how many times the word “you” was mentioned in the last sentence? Think about it… your Christianity is self-centered.

Praise the Lord. I will extol the Lord with all my heart in the council of the upright and in the assembly. Great are the works of the Lord; they are pondered by all who delight in them.

Psalm 111:1-2

Another reason for the church is to minister and encourage one another. Teach a 3rd grade Sunday School class, be on the outreach committee, help organize a food drive or visit one of the church members that is in a nursing home. Be God’s hands and feet. Remember… you’re switching from self-centered to God centered.

The last reason to go to church is to get spiritually recharged. Everything, including your Christianity, will run down over time. Going to church keeps your spiritual life running smooth.

It was He who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists and some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.

Ephesians 4:11-13
