Can the truths of Christianity be proved with 100% certainty?
This is one of those rare questions with two answers. Yes, Christianity can be proven to be true, but no, not with 100% certainty. We need to look closely at the nature of proof. The key is not a perfect or absolute certainty, but a standard of proof that amounts to a moral certainty or puts the matter beyond a reasonable doubt.
This is the standard used in our courts of law. A judge will tell the jury to decide based on probability, not certainty based on the evidence presented, not the certainty of having viewed the crime. If jury decisions were not made until 100% certainty existed, there would never be a verdict.
Christianity claims a moral certainty to anyone who is willing to take the evidence and weigh and evaluate it. To those outside the Christian faith, Christianity has strong evidence and a high degree of probability for its truth claims. But when a person becomes a Christian, the certainty becomes a reality.
In my former book, Theophilus, I wrote about all that Jesus began to do and teach until the day he was taken up to heaven after giving instructions through the Holy Spirit to the apostles he had chosen. After his suffering, he showed himself to these men and gave many convincing proofs that he was alive. He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God.
