Somewhere in the Bible God promises to give us anything we ask for. What verse is that?
Here is the verse.
If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish and
it will be given you.
John 15:7
So if we ask God to help us win the 100 million dollar lottery, is He obligated to fulfill our request? No. We have to understand the verse correctly in its’ context. Jesus is teaching his disciples that they cannot be used by God in their own strength and abilities. Read these verses before verse 7.
I am the true vine and my Father is the gardener. Remain in me, and I will remain
in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can
you bear fruit unless you remain in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. If a
man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do
nothing.
John 15:1,4-5
We can live for Christ, be a witness for Him only if we have His strength and holiness in us. Verse 7 is not a promise that God will answer every prayer. In a clear understanding of the passage, God promise is to abide in us to obtain His righteousness in our lives. Spiritual growth is a slow process, but if we desire God’s love and His holiness He will give it to us. Spiritual growth, like physical growth takes time but don’t give up. Keep asking God to help you mature in the faith so that you can be used of God so that He gets the glory. That kind of promise is a promise God loves to keep.
