How do you know that the Bible gives us a true record of what happened?

Christianity believes and teaches that the Bible alone is the revealed Word of God. Even though it was written by men, it was God who gave these men the words that were ultimately put on the pages. This is the claim the Bible makes for itself.

All Scripture is God – breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

2 Timothy 3:16

Just because the Bible makes such a claim, does not mean it’s true or convincing to everyone. We need to look at the evidence to back up such a claim.

One reason that the Bible is different from other books is its unity. Although this book was composed by men, its unity betrays the hand of God Himself. The Bible was written over a period of about 1,500 years by more than 40 different human authors from a variety of backgrounds and occupations. The biblical writings were composed on three continents and in three languages. Yet, the Bible is a unity. From beginning to end, there’s one unfolding story of God’s plan of salvation for mankind.

Second reason to believe the Bible is truly from God is fulfilled prophecy. There are hundreds of prophecies which have come to past that only God could reveal and only God could fulfill.

Third reason…archaeological discoveries point to the accuracies of historic people and places.

No other book can make the claim to be the Word of God and then back up that claim by the amount of evidence that the Bible has.

We know that the Bible gives us a true record of events because we know that information comes from God Himself.
