The Hand2Hand Win-Win for West Michigan Coronavirus Response Proposal
Win #1 –
Due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19), economies are declining at a rapid rate. Small business and restaurant owners are at risk of potentially closing their doors completely, due to lack of revenue. Employees of restaurants are becoming unemployed as they are no longer needed, and many of them fall in the low wage bracket already.
This proposal is a win for our local restaurant owners, employees, and their respective economies.
Win #2:
Due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19), our H2h families are at risk of increased food insecurity. We have plans in place with Byron Center schools to piggy-back food distribution with the foodservice team right now.
Hand2Hand Win-Win for West Michigan Proposal:
-
Hand2Hand approached locally-owned restaurants and asked them to create a meal menu for families that would still make a profit for the business but at a slightly reduced cost. Local restaurant owners were THRILLED with the idea of being able to help the community but also to keep their employees working!
-
Hand2Hand purchases gift cards from these restaurants and distributes them to H2h families. The business owner sees the H2h logo marked on the GC and knows to use a pre-selected, reduced cost menu.
As a Church we already have an avenue into the lives of students and schools, this will also give us an avenue to begin a relationship with local restaurant owners and employees. Finally, this will keep money in the local community so that our economies are better able to thrive in the midst of these uncertain days.
Currently, H2h has raised $30,000 in matching grants and an additional $20,000 for a total of $50,000. We are working on raising more for this endeavor. If you are open to giving towards this unique and entrepreneurial response, please go to h2hkids.org. If you have food that you have packed please hang on to it. We will still need it after our quarantine lifts!
