How can I be strong enough to resist temptation?

Let’s look on how Jesus handled temptation.

Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.

Mathew 4:1

Jesus spent 40 days fasting and being tempted by Satan. How did He respond? First, Jesus loved the Father and wanted to please Him. Jesus had the right heart and mind to start with. Jesus responded to Satan’s temptation perfectly. He used Scripture. Every time Satan tempted Jesus to do wrong, Jesus quoted a verse from the Bible. And when Satan tried to use a Bible verse on the last temptation, Jesus told him how he used that verse incorrectly by quoting another verse.

How can we say no to Satan? First, love God and have a heart that wants to please Him. Second, know the Bible well and allow the Holy Spirit and prayer to give you the strength and desire to say no to Satan and evil desires, and to say yes to following a holy and righteous God who loves you more than you can ever know.

Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and he will come near to you.

James 4:7-8a
