A 16 year old girl from my church died in a car accident. Is this God’s plan?

You just received news that a couple from your church lost their 16 year old daughter in a car accident. Your heart breaks for this family. You saw this young lady last Sunday as she met at church to go to a youth group outing. She was with some of her friends laughing and anticipating a great time. And now this. Your mind goes to what to say, are there words of comfort? The only thing that comes to mind is, this is just part of God’s plan. You ponder those words; why would a loving God take a 16 year old from her family? Is sadness and anguish part of a loving God’s plan?

No, sorrow and death was never part of God’s plan. What was God’s plan? To create a wonderful universe, a planet earth, and put a man and woman on this planet to love and for them to love him. God had a perfect plan without sorrow, pain or death. But the man and woman did not conform to God’s perfect plan and rebelled, bringing sin and death to God’s once perfect creation.

Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all men, because all sinned.

Romans 5:12

Mankind is paying the consequence of bringing sin into this world. If a parent instructs his child not to bang his head on a brick wall and the child disobeys and bangs his head on a brick wall, is the pain the child experiences the fault of the parent? Was it the parent’s plan for the child to have a painful childhood? Of course not. In the same way, God never planned for sin to come on the scene nor did he ever want to see people suffer because of it.
