How could Noah fit all the animals on the Ark?
When you first read the question it sounds like a good question, after all, there are 4,475 species of mammals, 9,000 species of birds, 7984 species of reptiles and 5,000 of amphibians. But take a close look at what the Bible states.
Take with you seven of every kind of clean animal, a male and its mate and two of every kind of unclean animal, a male and its mate and also seven of every kind of bird, male and female, to keep their various kinds alive throughout the earth.
Genesis 7:2-3
Notice that Noah did not take every species but every kind of animal. You ask, what is a kind? Simply put, if two things can breed together, then they are of the same created kind. As an example, dogs can easily breed with one another, whether wolves, dingoes, coyotes, or domestic dogs. When dogs breed together you get dogs; so there is a dog kind. So Noah did not have to bring a bobcat, lion, tiger and a leopard, he needed to bring one cat. It has been estimated that Noah only had to bring from 9,000 – 12,000 animals on the ark. Most animals are not large like horses but small, like a goat, or a beaver. Many animals can be housed together in large cages, so it is possible that most of the perching birds like cardinals, bluebirds and chickadees could have been kept in one or two large cages. Since it was dark in the ark the animals slept more and ate less making it easier for Noah and his family to care of the animals. Knowing the size of the Ark, there was plenty of room for the animals and the necessary food.
