Answer:

God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son . . . (HEBREWS 1:1-2).

2 TIMOTHY 3:16-17, PROVERBS 30:5-6

So, Alyssa, you can’t actually “hear” God, right? Well, our verse tells us that long ago, before the Bible was ever printed, God did speak to people. He spoke so they would know what He wanted and so they would know Him. He only spoke to those people He chose, and they shared God’s words with the others.

But you see, those people way back then did not have the Bible, God’s written word. We are so blessed to have God’s Word. It is like a long letter from God. This letter is like other letters you might get from your mom, grandma, or a friend. When you read a letter, you know that someone is “talking” to you, don’t you? It is the same with the Bible. We don’t need to hear God out loud because we can “hear” what He has to say by reading the Bible.

We think it might be easier if God would just speak out loud and then we would know what He wanted. But He promises that if we study His word we will get to know Him. We need to read it and study it. We need to trust it. When we do that, we will hear God through His Word!
