If God is a God of love, then I can do whatever I want, right?
Many Christians believe that God’s main purpose for us is to be happy. When we are happy then God is happy. That it is okay to do what we want if that brings a little joy into our life. Well, that might be a good thought but it is also wrong. God’s main purpose in our life is righteousness not happiness. God does want us to be happy but in the confines of His holiness. Yes, God is a loving God, but God is also a holy God and expects His children to do what is right according to what is plainly written in His Word, the Bible.
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
2 Timothy 3:16-17
God is creator God, He is King over the earth, He is Sovereign Lord. God writes the rules on what is right and what is wrong. Our responsibilities? Study the Bible to know what God’s rules are and then obey them. Our culture states that we can write our own rules; that man is in charge of morality. That is a lie.
Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming.
Ephesians 4:14
In the previous verses the apostle Paul wrote to the church stating that God raised pastors and teachers to warn the people against the cultural mindset of the day. He taught that as we set our mind on Christ we will mature in our Christian faith and thus be on guard against the foolish teaching in that secular culture.
God gives us the joy and peace that we all long for in the relationship with God through His Son Jesus Christ. Yes, God wants us to be happy, but only in the way that would please a holy God.
